Apr\u00e8s un incendie \u00e0 Oxford Circus un an plus tard, l'interdiction a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tendue \u00e0 toutes les stations de m\u00e9tro. Cependant, il \u00e9tait courant \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque que les fumeurs allument leurs cigarettes en sortant de la station, jetant les allumettes sur le sol de la salle des billets et dans les escaliers. Vers 19h30, une allumette encore allum\u00e9e est tomb\u00e9e sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 d'un escalator en marche. Une combinaison de graisse et de d\u00e9chets provenant des mouvements quotidiens (tickets, cheveux, poils de rats, etc.) sous l'escalator sur ses rails a permis \u00e0 ce petit feu provenant de l'allumette de se propager rapidement. Les pompiers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9s six minutes seulement apr\u00e8s que les usagers eurent alert\u00e9 la police des transports britannique.<br \/>\nL'utilisation initiale des extincteurs n'a rien donn\u00e9 car le feu br\u00fblait sous l'escalator, qu'il \u00e9tait impossible d'atteindre. Un \u00e9quipement de brouillard d'eau \u00e9tait disponible, mais personne sur place n'avait \u00e9t\u00e9 form\u00e9 \u00e0 son utilisation. \u00c0 19 h 42, l'ensemble de l'escalier m\u00e9canique \u00e9tait en feu. Le gaz surchauff\u00e9 s'est alors \u00e9lev\u00e9 jusqu'au sommet de la cage de l'escalier m\u00e9canique, o\u00f9 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 pi\u00e9g\u00e9 par le plafond. Le gaz a touch\u00e9 une vingtaine de couches de vieille peinture, qui ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 absorber la chaleur. Trois minutes plus tard, un embrasement (inflammation de mat\u00e9riaux combustibles) et un jet de flammes sont mont\u00e9s jusqu'\u00e0 la salle des billets, la remplissant de fum\u00e9e noire et de temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es. Malheureusement, cela a tu\u00e9 ou gravement bless\u00e9 de nombreuses personnes qui n'avaient pas encore \u00e9vacu\u00e9 la salle des billets. Ceux qui se trouvaient en dessous de l'escalier roulant ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 s'enfuir dans les trains pour se mettre \u00e0 l'abri. Plus de 150 pompiers se sont rendus sur les lieux et l'incendie a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00e9teint aux premi\u00e8res heures du 19 novembre. Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter qu'en dehors des facteurs mentionn\u00e9s pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment dans le document\u00a0<a class=\"cursor-init\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theisrm.org\/documents\/Fennel%20(1988)%20Investigation%20Intointo%20the%20Kings%20Cross%20Fire.pdf\">cet article<\/a>, L'angle (30\u00b0) des escaliers m\u00e9caniques s'est \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 important. L'enqu\u00eate sur l'embrasement a d\u00e9bouch\u00e9 sur la d\u00e9couverte de l\u2018\"effet de serre\".\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trench_effect\">effet de tranch\u00e9e<\/a>\u2019qui \u00e9tait totalement inconnu avant l'incendie. C'est ce qui a directement provoqu\u00e9 l'embrasement. Bien que ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne puisse encore se produire dans les m\u00e9tros du monde entier, de nombreux changements sont intervenus dans le r\u00e9seau du m\u00e9tro londonien \u00e0 la suite de cet incendie d\u00e9vastateur.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_column pos-top pos-center align_left column_child col-lg-6 single-internal-gutter\"><div class=\"uncol style-light\" ><div class=\"uncoltable\"><div class=\"uncell no-block-padding\" ><div class=\"uncont\" ><div class=\"uncode_text_column\" ><p>L'une des premi\u00e8res mesures prises a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'\u00e9limination du bois dans les gares, notamment dans les escaliers m\u00e9caniques et les lambris. Le dernier escalator en bois a \u00e9t\u00e9 retir\u00e9 en 2014. Quelques jours apr\u00e8s l'incendie, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 totalement interdit de fumer dans tout le r\u00e9seau du m\u00e9tro londonien. Des d\u00e9tecteurs de chaleur et des sprinklers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 install\u00e9s sous les escaliers m\u00e9caniques. L'incendie a m\u00eame conduit \u00e0 l'am\u00e9lioration de l'\u00e9quipement des pompiers au Royaume-Uni : les pantalons en plastique jaune qui fondaient sous l'effet de la chaleur intense et les gants en caoutchouc qui g\u00eanaient les mouvements des mains ont \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9s par des v\u00eatements plus
