Une \u00e9quipe de carreleurs proc\u00e9dait \u00e0 l'inspection du restaurant et a remarqu\u00e9 une lumi\u00e8re vacillante, qui s'est av\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00eatre l'incendie. Celui-ci a finalement \u00e9t\u00e9 caus\u00e9 par un d\u00e9faut de mise \u00e0 la terre \u00e0 l'int\u00e9rieur d'une prise \u00e9lectrique murale. Les employ\u00e9s ont \u00e9galement remarqu\u00e9, \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s au m\u00eame moment, que de la fum\u00e9e s'\u00e9chappait des bouches d'a\u00e9ration du plafond. Le service de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9venu et a contact\u00e9 les pompiers. Moins de 20 minutes apr\u00e8s avoir constat\u00e9 l'incendie, les pompiers du comt\u00e9 de Clark se sont rendus sur place. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 suivis par plusieurs h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res (qui ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9vacuer les toits) et d'autres \u00e9quipes de pompiers.<\/p>\n<p>Le feu s'est d'abord propag\u00e9 rapidement. Malheureusement, ces fum\u00e9es se sont r\u00e9pandues dans le complexe et dans l'h\u00f4tel gr\u00e2ce aux conduits verticaux tels que les escaliers et les ascenseurs. Ce flux g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9 d'air toxique a fini par causer la majorit\u00e9 des d\u00e9c\u00e8s. Les clients ont tent\u00e9 d'\u00e9vacuer les lieux, mais certains n'ont pas pu le faire assez rapidement car les ascenseurs ne revenaient pas automatiquement au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e. 10 personnes sont mortes dans l'un de ces ascenseurs. Certaines personnes ont m\u00eame r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 s'\u00e9chapper en accrochant des draps de lit \u00e0 leur fen\u00eatre pour atteindre les \u00e9tages inf\u00e9rieurs.<\/p>\n<p>Certaines personnes bloqu\u00e9es dans leur chambre ont ouvert les fen\u00eatres pour respirer de l'air frais, mais une \u00e9paisse fum\u00e9e provenant de l'ext\u00e9rieur s'est infiltr\u00e9e dans leur chambre, ce qui a aggrav\u00e9 la situation.
