En outre, un incendie peut \u00e9galement se produire pendant la phase de construction, car les sites ouverts sont souvent plus vuln\u00e9rables au vol, au vandalisme et \u00e0 l'incendie criminel.  Ce risque est encore aggrav\u00e9 par le fait que les syst\u00e8mes de protection habituels des b\u00e2timents, tels que les gicleurs, les murs coupe-feu et les d\u00e9tecteurs, ne sont pas toujours mis en place avant les derni\u00e8res \u00e9tapes de la construction. Pour les raisons mentionn\u00e9es, les constructeurs et les compagnies d'assurance savent que le feu est une menace tr\u00e8s r\u00e9elle - alors pourquoi de nombreux chantiers de construction choisissent-ils de fonctionner sans la meilleure protection contre les incendies ? Quelle que soit la raison, qu'il s'agisse d'une question de temps, de co\u00fbt ou d'une combinaison des deux, en cas d'incendie, il est essentiel de pouvoir agir rapidement. Si on le laisse se propager, les cons\u00e9quences peuvent \u00eatre graves en termes de pertes humaines et financi\u00e8res. Pour mettre les choses en perspective, selon le<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfpa.org\/\">\u00a0NFPA<\/a>\u00a0Les services d'incendie locaux ont r\u00e9pondu \u00e0 une moyenne estim\u00e9e de 3 840 incendies dans des structures en construction et de 2 580 incendies dans des structures en r\u00e9novation majeure par an entre 2013 et 2017. De plus, les incendies dans les structures en construction ont caus\u00e9 en moyenne quatre d\u00e9c\u00e8s civils, 49 bless\u00e9s civils et $304 millions de dommages mat\u00e9riels directs par an. En ce qui concerne la d\u00e9tection d'incendie c\u00e2bl\u00e9e, elle peut d'abord sembler probl\u00e9matique si une source d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 fiable n'est pas encore enti\u00e8rement install\u00e9e sur le chantier. En raison du manque d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, certains sites utilisent encore des avertisseurs sonores obsol\u00e8tes comme m\u00e9thode d'\u00e9vacuation sur les chantiers de construction. Cette m\u00e9thode pr\u00e9sente toutefois des inconv\u00e9nients. En effet, un klaxon ne peut pas assurer l'\u00e9vacuation de l'ensemble du site, car il n'est pas en mesure d'indiquer o\u00f9 se trouve le feu, mais simplement qu'il y a un incendie quelque part sur le site. Il peut \u00e9galement \u00eatre difficile de distinguer le bruit d'un klaxon des autres bruits de fond sur un site.
